Information on Vinyl

Vinyl Color Creations offers you the freedom to brighten up your space and change the look of any room in as little as a few minutes. We offer high quality wall decals, quotes, art and so much more.

We take pride in providing great customer service along with high quality products at reasonable prices. We offer over 30 matte colors to choose from, which is the ideal choice for indoor graphics. The matte finish suppresses unwanted reflections on the vinyl allowing your decal to look just like artwork that has been meticulously painted on your wall. The vinyl removes easily and will not chip any paint making it ideal for our temporary home here on island.

In addition, they are super easy to install and can be applied to any smooth surface. Each package comes with installation instructions and we even guide you to a great online tutorial that will help you along the way. Our vinyl can be applied to any smooth surface including windows, metals, tables, ceilings, or even smooth furniture. And yes they stick to our indoor textured walls here on base too.

We are adding to our stock all the time and will be expanding out outdoor vinyl colors within the next few months, so be sure to check back often or simply email us to see what Vinyl Color Creations can make just for you.

How to Apply

Housing may have used touch up paint rather than painting your entire wall prior to you moving in. That paint may peel and stick to your vinyl if not removed rendering your decal unusable. To remove, simply take masking tape and stick it to your wall and then remove. If any amount of paint comes off, keep applying new tape to remove the touch up paint then follow the steps below.  Feel free to visit http://www.youtube.com/user/LucidGraphics13 for a great instructional video on how to install wall decals.  I am not associated in any way to Lucid Graphics but they do offer a wonderful online example.

For step by step written directions please follow the directions below:

  1. Do not remove top layer of transfer tape...Please unroll your design and use the white applicator tool to smooth out your image.  Place image on a hard surface and smooth from the middle and work your way out to the edges using normal pressure.
  2. Please clean your surface with a few small drops of dish soap and water! No matter how clean it looks, it is always best to ensure that the wall is clean and dry using a soft dry towel. This will ensure that the vinyl will stick correctly to a dust free wall.  Please do not use glass cleaners or anything with ammonia as this will cause the adhesive not to stick.
  3. Tape your image to the wall by simply applying two small pieces of masking tape, one on each side of the image, to hold it in place.  Step back and be sure that you have it in the exact position you want it to go (adjust if needed) then tape along the entire top of your decal or along one side to allow your design to remain in place so that you can judge if the graphic is level.

  4. Apply one long strip of masking tape across the top of the entire decal.  This will work as a hinge so that you will be able to lift the transfer tape as needed.  Start from a bottom corner, pull the top layer (transfer tape) up and away from the bottom sheet Carefully and SLOWLY. **Notice that your letters will stick to the top sticky transfer tape.** If the vinyl sticks to the backing paper when lifting the transfer tape, lower the transfer tape back down a little and use the application tool to apply more pressure.
  5. Once you have it pulled up to the top, allow the bottom sheet to fall and gently smooth the top transfer tape down (top to bottom) with your applicator tool.  Take time to work your way across the top down to the bottom using a side-to-side sweeping motion. After it is completely down, use your applicator tool to work the image down in a sweeping motion, this time using moderate pressure to press your decal down into place. Go slow and overlap your previous pass this step helps to eliminate trapped air bubbles in your design.
  6. Starting at the bottom, SLOWLY remove the transfer tape by peeling the transfer tape pulling diagonally across the graphics which helps in the application process.  If any letters lift away from the wall while removing the transfer tape, lay that section of the tape back down and use the application tool to rub the tape more firmly until the vinyl adheres to the wall.
That's It! Notice that the finished vinyl image conforms to the minor texture surface of the wall and looks as if the letters were hand painted meticulously onto the wall. Admire Your Work!

Quick Method
(ONLY if you are installing a small decal smaller than your hand.)
  1. Peel off the backing paper.
  2. Starting at any one side, place decal where you want it.
  3. Slowly lay rest of decal down on the surface, using a sweeping motion with your applicator tool and by using moderate pressure, gently apply from one edge to the other.
  4. Slowly peel off clear protective tape from decal.
Helpful Hints

  1. In the case of air bubbles, simply use a safety pin to pop the bubble and then smooth over with the applicator tool.
  2. CAUTION: Do not apply any vinyl to newly painted surfaces. Allow 30 - 60 days for the new paint to fully cure, otherwise degassing bubbles may occur as the paint cures.
  3. If your image is in two or more sections, you may want to apply the lower image first. For instance, if you have a flower in two sections, you will want the bloom to be on top of the stem rather than the stem showing in the front of the bloom.
  4. In cold weather the image may not want to cooperate.  Use a hair to WARM the surface before applying.  Installations are best when the temperature is above 55 degrees F.
  5. Do Not try to install in windy conditions.
